John is an independent EMC consultant for Tork Technologies, LLC.  Tork Technologies is a registered LLC in the state of California and holds a business license in the City of Placentia, CA.  John is an iNARTE Certified EMC Engineer and EMC Design Engineer, EMC-001361 and EMCD-00228-E respectively.

John has 35 years of professional EMC design and test experience.  John most recently worked for SteppIR Communication Systems at their Chief Technology Officer.  At SteppIR, John was responsible for the development of new, innovative EMC products, consulting and training services and served as the technical officer for the company.

Before joining SteppIR, John was Director of Engineering at DNB Engineering Inc. in Fullerton, CA. where he performed EMC consulting, managed new EMC product development including LISNs and filters and innovated test methods for specialized electromagnetic testing including high power lightning generators and simulators. Before 1999, John was employed in the aerospace EMC field with Allied-Signal (Torrance, CA), Sundstrand (Rockford, IL) and Sperry Flight Systems (Glendale, AZ).

John earned his BEE from University of Dayton, Dayton Ohio and his MSEE from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  John’s graduate research was in antenna theory with a focus on the Log-Periodic Dipole Array (LPDA) where he studied under the direction of Paul Mayes, the inventor of the Vee dipole and a pioneer in the development of LPDA antennas.

John has presented papers at IEEE chapter meetings including a presentation on LPDA antennas.  John is a member of the IEEE, member of the S-27 EMC Society and member of the dB Society (Yagi Yoda).  John teaches an annual introductory EMC course at the University of Wisconsin, Madison annually as part of the WEMPAC series of continued education short courses.  John has also provided in-house EMC training at his previous employers.

Over his career, John has contributed innovation to several space, military and commercial platforms including International Space Station (ISS), E-2C, F-16, F-22, F-35, X-33, Boeing 737, 767, 777, Gulfstream G-IV, G-V, McDonald-Douglas MD-11, MD-80, Airbus A350, A380 and Viking DHC-6 Twin-Otter among many others.

John has provided EMC consulting for many companies including AeroVironment, Applied Companies, B/E Aerospace, Boeing, Collins Aerospace, Enviro Systems, ESI Motion, Honeywell, HR Textron, ITT Gilfillan, iCRCo, Macrolink, McDonald Douglas,  One-Cycle Control, Rockwell-Collins, Sekai and Sonatech to name a few.
